2016-2017 Dynasty Stash Tidbits, vol1
This column is designated for the back end of your dynasty fantasy football roster. These dynasty stash tidbits are fliers for you to scoop up and hold onto with the hopes that they’ll make us proud some day down the road.
Here are 3 guys I’m stashing in dynasty…
Terrell Watson, RB – Philadelphia Eagles
RB Terrell Watson went undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was eventually picked up by the Cincinnati Bengals and put on their practice squad. When Hue Jackson left Cinci to become Head Coach of the Cleveland Browns, he brought Watson with him – and the dynasty metrics community was tickled. We were scooping him up in the late rounds of startup drafts, and grabbing him off of waivers… stashing him for the day he was given his chance. He stands 6’1″, 242lbs, his best comparable player in the PlayerProfiler database is Steven Jackson… and he’s only 23!
Check out this quote from his Wikipedia page:
During his college career, Terrell Watson scored 79 touchdowns and rushed for nearly 6,000 yards for Azusa Pacific. He broke every rushing record at the school, which were previously held by Christian Okoye. Watson ran for 2,212 yards and 29 touchdowns as a senior in the 2014 season. He went on to be named MVP of the 2015 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
This kid was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles at the end of the 2016 season, sat on the practice squad for a week, then played in Week 17. In his NFL debut, Watson rushed 9 times for 29 yards and 1 TD. Not otherworldly, but I was telling people to stash him before he scored a TD… now I’m only disappointed we have to wait til next year to see him in action again (hopefully!)
Bruce Ellington, WR – San Fransisco 49ers
Bruce Ellington is a talented mammer jammer who hasn’t really had a chance to show us what he can do. He flashed a bit in 2015, but he missed all of 2016 with a hamstring tear. Most do not know that he was the favorite to be the WR1 in San Fran before the 2016 season began.
Ellington has a very impressive athletic profile – with 4.45 wheels, and ridiculous agility… he is a SPARQ-X phenom.
Jonathan Williams, RB – Buffalo Bills
As a rookie in 2016, Jonathan Williams had a quiet 1st season. Not a surprise, as he was behind LeSean McCoy and Mike Gilslee on the depth chart. I’m suggesting you dynasty stash Williams because I think he’s got the stuff to be a starter in this league. When watching his film, I see an aggressively-stubborn unwillingness to go down.
With over 1,600 all purpose yards and 14 TDs, Shady McCoy had a great year. It’s no question who the man is in Buffalo. However, Shady is no spring chicken. He will be 29 years old when the 2017 season begins, and he has had a tough time throughout his career staying healthy for 16 games.
Mike Gillislee is a fine backup, but I feel like that’s all he is… a backup. If something were to suddenly happen to McCoy, it would be Gillislee who gets the initial call. But I’m stashing Jonathan Williams in dynasty fantasy football believing he’s the better player – and believing he’d eventually take the job.
That’ll do for now! If you have the space on the back end of your bench, the 3 players I reviewed above are some nice dynasty stash options. If you have any questions, or just want to keep up with all things FFCC… follow me (and engage!) on Twitter @FFcouchcoach.
