2017-2018 Dynasty Stash Tidbits, vol1
This column is designated for the back end of your dynasty fantasy football roster. These dynasty stash tidbits are fliers for you to scoop up and hold onto with the hopes that they’ll make us proud some day down the road.
Here are some guys I’m stashing in dynasty. If you can’t scoop them up off of the waiver wire, you should be able to acquire them in trade for an affordable price tag.
Dynasty Stash Tidbits
WR Damiere Byrd – Carolina Panthers
Damiere Byrd came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent, and has become a Carolina fan favorite. I first noticed him flash in the preseason, and it made me check out his metrics on PlayerProfiler. Boy oh boy, was I pleasantly surprised!
Take a look at the graphic below for Byrd’s eye-popping metrics. This man is in the upper 90th percentile for everything except for speed score. Athletically, his closest comparable player is Marquise Goodwin. Goodwin competed in the Olympics for track & field. What does that mean? It means Damiere Byrd is a freak athlete, and that piques my interest. At 5’9″, 162lbs, he is kind’ve a runt… but don’t let that be your deciding factor. Plus, keep in mind that we’re looking for guys to fill the back end of your roster.
Currently on the Carolina depth chart, Damiere Byrd is listed as the Panthers’ WR2. That being said, there will be some obstacles in his way before the 2018 season begins. For one, there are many big name WRs who will be available once free agency hits. Also, expect there to be a training camp competition between Byrd and now-rookie Curtis Samuel. I haven’t heard much buzz coming out of the 2018 rookie class as far as WR talent, so I’m not too concerned with the NFL Draft effecting Byrd. You want to dynasty stash Damiere Byrd now while you can. He is still available on so many waivers wires, and can be purchased for very cheap.
WR Keelan Cole – Jacksonville Jaguars
Keelan Cole is a dynasty buy. Two weeks ago, you would have been able to scoop him up off of waivers for free. Now, you may not be so lucky (at least you shouldn’t be). Go check NOW just in case… I’ll wait.
This is Cole’s rookie season, and he has been a hidden gem. The wide receiver position in Jacksonville has been a roller coaster ride. First, they lose Allen Robinson for the season to injury. With A-Rob sidelined, many believed it was time for Marqise Lee and Dede Westbrook to step up and strut their stuff. I’m about to throw some numbers at you…
These are 2017 stats – Week 17 not included.
Allen Hurns excluded because I don’t think he is a Jaguar beyond the 2017 season.
|Marqise Lee||Dede Westbrook||Keelan Cole|
|Yds per Rec||12.5||12.7||18.8|
Before I begin, I should mention that Westbrook only played 6 games because he began the season injured. Now – take a close look at the chart above. Keelan Cole earned more yards receiving with less targets than Marqise Lee. They both had over 700 yards receiving, but Cole did it with 75 targets – versus Lee’s 96 targets. Not only that, but take a look at the Yds per Rec. Both Lee and Westbrook are about even at over 12 yards per reception. But Cole has 18.8 yards per reception. When the football is in his hands, Keelan Cole is more efficient than his colleagues.
What’s the best part about Keelan Cole? In dynasty fantasy football, he is much cheaper than Allen Robinson, Marqise Lee, and Dede Westbrook. Like I mentioned above, he was free a couple weeks ago, but you still shouldn’t have to break the bank to get him. Food for thought: Allen Robinson is a Free Agent after this season. Stay woke.
WR Trent Taylor – San Francisco 49ers
I noticed this dude’s name being mentioned multiple times while watching a 49ers game earlier in the season. He just stood out. To me, he’s one of those “fruit fly players”… just seems to never go away. I took a liking to him back then… when now he’s got Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback. I know it’s a small sample size, but Jimmy GQ looks like the real deal, and I’m buying in early. Marquise Goodwin is already on fantasy owner’s radars, and Pierre Garcon is a houshold name. But the guy I think Jimmy is meshing with right now is Trent Taylor. Jimmy GQ has only been at the helm for a handful of weeks. Give him an entire offseason to work with his team, and I think we could be looking at a Tom Brady / Wes Welker situation. No… I am not saying Jimmy is Brady. Dynasty stash Trent Taylor now while you can.
That will do for now! The fantasy offseason has just begun, so we will have plenty of time to explore more gems to dynasty stash. Til’ next time… thanks for reading!
